When famous Chicago icon Superdawg opened recently in Wheeling, it was missing two iconic figures: Maurie & Flaurie. These weiner statues have had a place on the roof of the Chicago location since 1948, but were conspicuously absent from the new place in the northwest suburbs--until now.

Last Thursday, the 14'6" and 13'9" statues (almost three feet larger than the paper-mache-wrapped-in-fiberglass-originals, and weighing in at 500 and 600 lbs.) were placed on the top of the 91-parking-spot restaurant, which is bigger than the Chicago location and features custom-made equipment and an open kitchen. A 100-seat picnic area overlooks the forest preserve and the Des Plaines River as well. You can eat in your car, of course, and the ambience is very similar to the Chicago Superdawg--just larger in every way.

For more info, call 847-459-1900. You'll find Superdawg at 333. S. Milwaukee, a little north of Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.
